Preview to CSK vs Kings X1 – Match 11 – IPL,2013 – April 10th

The Super Kings have proved yet again that they are slow starters by losing their first match. Though this is a usual situation for any CSK fan, as he knows that these things do happen before they reach the knockout phase, this IPL looks like a tougher one already with the not so fancied teams winning against stronger opponents. With the Punjab team winning their opener against the Pune warriors in a convincing fashion, the boys from Chennai have to play to their true potential to get their team on the points table. They have an opposing captain with a very sharp cricketing brain in the form of Adam Gilchrist. The mighty Aussie definitely knows how to get the best out of his guys and that was clearly evident in the demolition of the hapless Warriors team, a few days ago. True, the Kings X1 don’t have any superstars in their ranks except for Gilly. However, they have the kind of players who come up with some memorable performances on their day. In Azhar Mahmood & David Hussey, they have 2 players who can win the matches single-handedly. Also, they have dependable local players like Manpreet, Awana & Vohra.

CSK on the other hand will be keen to prove a point after their loss to the Mumbai Indians in their opener. All the CSK fans would have thought “We should have won the match if Kieron Pollard was shorter by a few inches”. (This includes your’s truly as well).  But nonetheless, the knock by “Captain Cool” was a fantastic one. The best part of the Chennai’s batting in the previous match was that everyone got off to a start but failed to capitalize on it. If Murali Vijay can stop getting over ambitious with his shot selection, then we have an opener who can make any attack look ordinary. Also, the Chennai team is strengthened by the arrival of the 2 South Africans, Morkel & Morris. Morkel has been there and done that before but this will be the first IPL for the young Morris. With Laughlin not being impressive in the last outing, Morris may come into the playing eleven. Or will MSD go for Hilfenhaus and pick Imtiaz Ahmed in place of Rajpoot? Knowing the behaviour of the Mohali pitch, he would be tempted in opening the bowling with Nannes & Hilfenhaus. Personally, I will be interested to see the number of tweets about  Sir Ravindra Jadeja making the rounds today ;)

My prediction for today : CSK all the way to the points table :)

My playing eleven for today’s match :

CSK : Vijay, Hussey, Raina, Badrinath, Dhoni, Jadeja, Bravo, Ashwin, Hilfenhaus,Nannes,Imtiaz

KX1 : Gilchrist,Mandeep,Vohra,Hussey,Azhar Mahmood, Gurkeerat Singh,Sathish, Chawla, Awana, Praveen, Harris
